MOMENTS | Rehash: #TBT Watch the Trailer for the Amy Winehouse Documentary, ‘AMY’

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

Grab a box of tissues because you need to watch the trailer for AMY right now. Amy Winehouse gorgeously blended her deep vocals with profoundly personal songwriting and a mix of musical genres—jazz, rhythm and blues, reggae, and pop. Four years after her untimely death from alcohol poisoning, the internationally adored and acclaimed artist is being remembered in a two-hour documentary set to debut in British theaters July 3rd. Directed by BAFTA-winning director Asif Kapaida (best known for 2010’s Senna), the documentary will tell the story of the London singer’s life and music via archived and previously unheard tracks.

MOMENTS | Meme: Dads Are The Original Hipster, Remixing and Rehashing the Styles of the ‘70s x the ‘90s

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

Dads are the Original Hipsters is a pretty self-explanatory blog that features the dads from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, all of whom were rocking the facial hair, thick-rimmed glasses, and the mix-and-match patterned clothing coveted by hipsters today. It’s kind of passé to make fun of hipsters, so we’re rehashing this meme #TBT out of love—mostly for the dads who were too cool before it was even a thing. Fashion and style are always taking cues from the past; the silhouettes from the ‘70s popped up again in the ‘90s, and in 2015, we’re still working through our ‘90s obsession. Here’s to the badass dads who killed it in their flannels, cycling caps and blasé attitudes.

MOMENTS | Rehash: #TBT Jay Z The Black Album x The Beatles The White Album = Danger Mouse The Grey Album

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.
Back in 2004, Danger Mouse released a mash-up album The Grey Album, which takes the a cappella version of Jay-Z’s The Black Album and pairs it with instrumentals made of samples from The Beatles’ LP The White Album—hence, the name The Grey Album. The album also spawned The Grey Video, a music video shot in black and white, featuring clips from The Beatles’ film A Hard Day’s Night and interspersed with footage from a Jay-Z performance.

MOMENTS | Acronym: Jay Z x Kanye West’s “H·A·M” Is An Acronym For ‘Hard As a Motherfucker’

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.
It’s Thursday, and sometimes, the Jay Z and Kanye West rap-opera hybrid track “H·A·M” is exactly what we need to get us to Friday. As the acronym and lyrics suggest, “I’m about to go H·A·M / Hard as a motherfucker.” We have to respect Jay Z and Kanye for being ‘H·A·M’ enough to blend the song’s heavy beats and the most bizarre opera trills over a gospel piano progression.

#TBT | Catwalk

New York Fashion Week officially kicks off today, and here at BAMIN (Build And Make It Now), we’re reminiscing about a time when fashion was less about the entertainment and more about the creatives.
We’re not gonna lie. We’ve definitely watched Catwalk, Christy Turlington’s fashion documentary, on repeat.
Catwalk follows Turlington’s life as she floats from city to city for the 1994 runways in Milan, Paris and New York (before London ranked alongside the original ‘Big Three’). But Robert Leacock’s documentary isn’t just about Turlington. Catwalk has delightful cameos from models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni and Linda Evangelista, among others.
