LISTEN | New Year Playlist: So Over You 2017

Yesterday, we made a playlist of Youtube videos commemorating our break up with 2017. But by popular demand, we have created a Spotify playlist so you can have a soundtrack to help you walk into 2018 fiercely.

MOMENTS | Mash-up: Celebrate the SCOTUS Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage in All 50 States with this Queer Playlist

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

About damn time for marriage equality. Today, in an historic and landmark decision, the Supreme Court has ruled 5-4 (let’s not even bother to read Scalia’s undoubted buzzkill of a dissenting opinion) that no state can deny same-sex couples the right to marry. #LoveWins indeed. Between this long overdue ruling, Caitlyn Jenner’s breakout Vanity Fair cover alongside the growing presence of trans voices, and Miley Cyrus’ LGBTQ homeless charity with Joan Jett, 2015 has been an incredible year for LGBTQ people. There will be no shortage of celebrations during Pride Festival this weekend, but we want to help you get in the right celebratory mood with this playlist of not so expected queer anthems.

MOMENTS | Mash-up: APHEX SWIFT, The Taylor Swift x Aphex Twin Musical Hybrid By Cartoonist David Rees

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.
Taylor Swift just released 1989, but we would rather talk about cartoonist David Rees’s APHEX SWIFT, an eight-track remix album made by combining the instrumentals of Aphex Twin with the vocals of Taylor Swift. The result is a surprisingly successful and aurally pleasing mash-up of different musical styles.
Known for combining bland clip art with outrageous “trash talk”, Rees is also an, ahem, artisanal pencil sharpener. The man isn’t without a sense of humor, and while creating an Aphex Twin and Taylor Swift remix playlist may seem outrageous, “Avril 14th” and “You Belong With Me” somehow makes all the sense in the world. And Swift’s vocals in “I Knew You Were Trouble” cut through the chaos of Richard D. James’ “4” to create tension in just the right places.

PLAY | M.I.A. Mix

M.I.A.’s music always has the best and most interesting samples, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t rad remixes of her tracks out there. Take a moment to listen to some of BAMIN’s (Build And Make It Now) favorite M.I.A. songs and remixes. Though if we had to pick, we’re a little partial to the “Royals” and “Paper Planes” mash-up.
