MOMENTS | Mash-up: FKA twigs Set Up a GIF Diary of Her ‘Soundtrack 7’ Residency at Manchester International Festival

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

We’re not surprised that the resident queen of cyber space has decided to document her seven-day residency of performance for the Manchester International Festival in GIF form via Tumblr. We are, however, really stoked that she’s decided to share her process in such a visually engaging and instant way. A picture may say a thousand words etc., but a GIF is video watching for the attention deficit generation. FKA twigs’ residency took place last week, and each day, she created and rehearsed a new dance piece. Oh, and she also found the time to direct seven different films that capture each performance. For anyone who wants a glimpse at twigs’ Soundtrack 7 project, her Tumblr page also includes photos and videos too (we just really like the GIFs).

MOMENTS | Mash-up: Watch FKA twigs’ Self-Directed Music Video For “Glass & Patron”

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

For the upcoming YouTube Music Awards, FKA twigs directed her music video for “Glass & Patron,” a new track from an EP that will be released later this year. The music video begins with a pregnant Twigs who then gives birth to colorful scarves that morph into, as stated in the press release, “the most epic vogue battle of all time.” “Glass & Patron” was also co-written and co-produced by Boots, who also made an appearance in FKA twigs’ Google Glass ad. “Glass & Patron” is one of 13 new videos presented by the 2015 YouTube Music Awards, but we think this one might be our favorite.

In honor of the recent anniversary of the death of Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls aka The Notorious B.I.G, DJ and artist Terry Urban put together a glorious album of Notorious B.I.G. and FKA Twigs mash-ups. The tracks successfully merge the legend’s East coast rap styling with the English singer-songwriter-dancer’s whispery pop vocals. Though the tracks lean a little more heavily of B.I.G.’s tracks, you’ll still hear the subtle impact of Tahliah Debrett Barnett’s work.

MOMENTS | Mash-up: FKA twigs x Google Glass Collaborate For Digital x Reality Bending Short Film #throughglass

FKA twigs (Tahliah Barnett) made #throughglass, a conceptual short film she directed for and made via Google Glass. We have to say, the way she uses Google Glass is genuinely inspired. Known for her highly-regarded choreography, twigs puts on Google Glass before bursting into dance routines inspired by the videos streamed directly to her eyes.
