MOMENTS | Mash-up: Giorgio Moroder Releases a Megamix Teaser Video For Upcoming Déjà Vu Album

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

Disco legend Giorgio Moroder decided to give us all a teaser for his forthcoming Déjà Vu album via a mash-up, megamix video, which also happens to feature some impressive partner dancing from Ade Obayomi, Caitlin Kinney, and Megan Kinney. The five-minute video gives us short clips of every track on the album, beginning with Sia’s “Déjà Vu” and ending with Britney Spears’ cover of Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner.” Other tracks, like “Right Here, Right Now” with Kylie Minogue and “Diamonds” with Charli XCX, have been steadily trickling out onto the internet, but if the gloriously cheesy dance-pop teasers are anything to go by, it’s going to be a really fun album.

MOMENTS | Mash-up: Giorgio Moroder x Britney Spears Cover Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner”

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.

After a 30-year hiatus, Giorgio Moroder’s comeback album, Déjà Vu, has been a glorious thing of endless pop star collaborations. In what is arguably his most genius move yet, the disco legend has Britney Spears covering Suzanne Vega’s 1987 a cappella hit “Tom’s Diner.” The classic track is named after the real-life restaurant used in Seinfeld, and Spears’ reinterpretation gives the iconic ‘80s song a very club-pop twist. It may seem almost blasphemous to do anything to the unforgettable doo-doo-doo hook, but believe us when we say this cover does “Tom’s Diner” sonic and spiritual justice. Moroder actually hinted at the collaboration in an interview with Rolling Stone, stating he and Spears were working on “a song which came out about 30 years ago as an a cappella, just a voice.”
