MOMENTS | Mash-up: Banksy’s Girl with a Pierced Eardrum Remixes Johannes Vermeer Girl with a Pearl Earring

We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.
Banksy’s latest work artist’s Girl With A Pierced Eardrum parodied Johannes Vermeer’s 1665 masterwork Girl With A Pearl EarringNotorious for his satirical street art and subversive epigrams, it’s very much in line with the Banksy’s dark humor to replace the girl’s pearl earring with a burglar alarm box. There’s also a tongue-in-cheek reference to the burger van opposite the mural, with a caption that reads, “Gallery cafe open Monday to Sunday 8am to 2pm.”

#BestOf2013 | Best GIFs of 2013

GIFs have been a ubiquitous part of the internet for quite a while, but they seemed more present than ever this last year. We wanted to celebrate some of the creative minds who have taken GIF-designing to the next level.
1. When remix goddess M.I.A. launched M.I.A. x Versus Versace, she recruited photographer and GIF-master Jaime Martinez to help create its campaign.
Martinez puts a glitch-y gaze on the collection’s bootleg-inspired, psychedelic mash-up of iconic Versace logos. His uncanny ability to turn GIFs into high art perfectly captures the rebellious energy behind the capsule collection.
