Staying relevant on the go.
1. Fashion Week is over, and we’re already reminiscing over all the fun had at the shows. Iris Van Herpen’s suspended, vacuum-sealed models might take the prize as the best show-stopping backdrop.
“Models float in the air, embryonic, seemingly weightless and in a meditative suspended animation”, described Van Herpen.
2. The Alexander McQueen FW14 collection was absolutely decadent, but not even high fashion can get away from the mainstream. The cornrows of the early oughts started creeping back last year à la Riff Raff and James Franco in Spring Breakers, and now they’ve made their way onto the runway.
4. The Armory Show-Modern at Pier 92 was open to the public yesterday. Blouin ARTINFO has a video covering the show’s hidden gems, which includes David Smith’s combination of a copper plate and etching on woven paper.
5. Wes Anderson’s films have always paid painstaking detail to their respective universes. The Grand Budapest Hotel opens in theaters today, and Another Mag celebrates Anderson’s multi-textured worlds with illustrations by Max Dalton.
