Get your jar of tears from Drake songs ready because Drake just surprised us by posting a link to a 17-song mixtape titled If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. The mixtape includes songs like “6 God” and “Used To,” the rapper’s collaboration with Lil Wayne, as well as rumored artwork from his tentatively titled upcoming LP Views From the 6. The appearance of the Lil Wayne collaborative tracks and the artwork makes us speculate that perhaps If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is perhaps a hybrid of his announced LP and a mixtape. Whatever the case may be, the 17 tracks on the mixtape/LP hybrid is a fantastic example of Drake’s latest technical risks and shifts in musical artistry.

Drake had previously hinted at the mixtape’s release, via an Instagram post and Thursday’s release of his moody short film Jungle. Along with his Lil Wayne collaborations, the mixtape includes Drake’s work with Travi$ Scott and PARTYNEXTDOOR. We’ll let you parse out the rest of the samples, but the most obvious, Ginuwine’s “So Anxious,” can be heard in the opening track “Legend” and later in “Madonna.” Our favorite sample, however, might be when he drops some Erykah Badu at the end of “6 Man.” If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late has a decidedly darker tone, but the vulnerability and emotion that texture Drake’s work is definitely there. Whatever you’re doing this Valentine’s Day weekend, be sure to give If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late a listen.

We know If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is going to be our aural methadone when we’re slogging through the frigid urban landscape this weekend. For that stylish yet urban look, go with a blue and black duffel.
