MOMENTS | Mash-up: Celebrate Birdman’s Oscar Wins and Watch Sesame Street Spoof, “Big Birdman”
We’ve curated the best of digital age-inspired creativity—from user-generated content, mash-ups, and remixes to collaborations between multi-disciplined makers.
Last night, Birdman took home the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu also won Best Director for the feature. To celebrate the well-deserved wins, check out the best Birdman spoof you’ll see in this Sesame Street-meets-Birdman parody titled, “Big Birdman.” The short parody features Sesame Street legend Caroll Spinney, who has played Bird Bird since 1969. It’s an absolutely perfect homage that playfully mirrors the film’s look and feel, with Spinney haunted by his own feathery alter ego.
From the continuous shot to the supernaturally floating objects and percussions-based soundtrack, the parody is as faithful as it is funny. Spinney, age 81, and being the voice of Big Bird for a solid 45 years has to do some funny things to a person, right? The same existential questions are asked by the voice of Big Bird, ““How did we get here? How do we get to Sesame Street?” And course, there’s this gem: ““This place is crawling with monsters. Smells like bird seed.”
Go watch Birdman if you haven’t already, but before you do that, take a minute out of your day to experience “Big Birdman.”

The Oscars may be over, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have more important places and events to attend to. You’ll need a trusty brown leather overnight for all those costume changes. A splash of yellow and orange neomesh means you won’t lose track of your things, and it’s a more stylish nod at your favorite feathery childhood friend.
