Last night, Spoon served as the musical guests on Conan and delivered a hi-fi but utterly chill-inducing cover of The Cramps’ classic ’80s jamTV Set”. The blues-infused cover is the band’s contribution to the soundtrack for the upcoming reboot of the ‘80s horror classic, Poltergeist. Though Spoon adds a little more polish to the mad punk-y original, the screeching guitars and foot stomping boogie made for a very faithful interpretation. Between the more rockabilly-themed styling and the stuttering delivery the haunting “TV Set” lyrics, singer Britt Daniel was definitely channeling The Cramps’ late frontman Lux Interior.

Spoon also recently released a surreal, slow motion music video for their dreamy single “Inside Out.” We’re generally a bit wary of remakes, but for those interested, Poltergeist opens in theaters on May 22nd. Watch Spoon perform their cover of The Cramps’ “TV Set” below to get your throwback Thursday vibes with a modern twist.
