WATCH IT | #TBT To Voguing Savant Dashaun Wesley Lets Loose

Thanks to the internet and YouTube, the art of voguing (celebrated in cult film Paris is Burning, and brought into the mainstream by Madonna) has been able to spread beyond underground ballroom battles in NYC and invade far-flung countries—everywhere from Russia to Taiwan. The dance has been appropriated, remixed, and evolved since its inception and master voguer, Dashaun Wesley, shows how the art can be intensely personal, yet extremely versatile in the high-energy video above. Taking an influence and personalizing it to make something new is at the heart of what we do at BAMIN (Build And Make It Now), and Wesley’s flow embodies that effortlessly. Now THAT is showing some face.

LISTEN | You Won’t Hear These Holiday Songs At The Deli

With the holiday season in full swing, all the usual holiday songs can start to sound a little aggressive. We wanted to listen to something different, so in true mash-up form BAMIN (Build And Make It Now) put together a playlist of traditional songs covered by an eclectic array of artists from Cocteau Twins, Beyoncé, Sufjan Stevens, Kanye West, Run DMC, Fleet Foxes, Kylie Minogue, Kurtis Blow, etc..And there’s a few original songs that just feel appropriate for this wintry time. Enjoy.

PLAY | M.I.A. Matangi

“If you only live once why we keep doing the same shit?” M.I.A. asked via twitter. We couldn’t agree more with the sentiment.
Here at BAMIN (Build And Make It Now), we’ve been playing M.I.A.’s new album on loop. Her beat-heavy thumper titled, “Y.A.L.A.”, which stands for “You Always Live Again”, challenges Drake’s Y.O.L.O. mantra and makes it so much better.
M.I.A.’s music has an uncanny ability to predict the future of sound. And if you haven’t already noticed, there are echoes of “Bird Flu” in her new track “MATANGI”. Kind of like how your BAMIN bag takes on a new shape when you add new parts.
